Isaac Edward Marx was born Saturday, April 2nd, 2011 at 4:11am after an un-planned emergency c-section.Weighing 9 lbs 5oz, 21 inches long and a full head of dark hair...he's a healthy and very handsome little guy. He's already into modeling and not just for his mommy...he will soon be on the hospital's new website! The staff said he is just too perfect (we agree) and they were thrilled when we agreed to let them use Isaac's pictures for advertising.
Anyways...here's how it started. We went in to the doctor on Thursday morning (3/31) and things were "just starting" to happen, but we were told to come back on Sunday morning for a gel to get the ball rolling. Friday, April 1st I went in for my last day of work and put in 10+ hours. When I came home I did some cleaning and made dinner...we were expecting company Saturday and I didn't want a messy house. Nate and I tried setting up our netflix account and have a movie night. I thought I was having some contractions but they weren't really consistent so I didn't think a whole lot of it. At 8:45pm I was sitting on the couch and felt a little gush, telling Nate I think my water broke, I went to the bathroom...at this point I don't think he believed me...more or less an April Fools joke. I came back out into the living room and while standing there talking to Nate I felt a full out gush...there was NO mistaking this!! Nate said the look on my face was priceless and pretty funny as I went running into the bathroom again. I took a shower while he called the hospital and we were soon on our way. We called our parents to give them a heads up. My Dad very calmly told me to keep them updated, but said I still have a long way to go, knowing how long a typical labor lasts.
At the hospital I was only dilated to a 2 or 3. We did some walking and lots of reading through baby name books and browsing the internet, and asking staff for suggestions, still no agreement on a name. The nurses didn't expect things to go fast since my contractions were still irregular. By 1am my contractions were right on top of each other, pain at 9 out of 10 and time for an epidural. After that I was more comfortable but things started to change. I only dilated to 4cm but now baby was no longer down...not wanting to come out. I was closely monitored, re-positioned and given oxygen for baby. We were told he wasn't progressing the way he should, but not to worry. After a hour or two of close monitoring and no changes, it was decided we needed a c-section asap. Poor Nate...at least I knew the staff and was on drugs so I was more relaxed. Issac was born at 4:14am and thank God by c-section. The umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck two times. He had a loud healthy cry when delivered. Nate got to go back with Isaac...I mentioned the name while they were leaving, but since I hardly got to see him said we could decide when I was out of recovery.
When I got out of recovery and back to the room, my parents had already arrived and were there with Nate and Isaac...meeting their first grandchild! Grandma and Grandpa Marx were on the road and expected to arrive within a few hours. As Nate and I sat there getting to know our little man, we looked at him and instantly agreed on the name Isaac Edward. Isaac after my great-grandparents who were "Isaacson's" and Edward after Nate's grandpas...all of who were farmers, and were strong, yet kind & loving people. He also shares the same middle name as Nate.
Our little man played a pretty good April Fool's on us and waited to be born the next day. Now here's a look at some pictures!
